Nye aftapninger fra Douglas Laing

Douglas Laing har frigivet syv nye aftapninger i deres XOP (Xtra Old Particular) serie.

De syv nye aftapninger dækker over fem single malts og to single grain.

Douglas Laing XOP GirvanHighland Park 21 YO, 52,6%, Refill Hogshead, 228 flasker, £160: The nose shows rich Malt tones and toffee, plus a later oceanic style with subtle peat. The palate shows honey on lightly burnt toast with a juicy barley backdrop of late smoke. The finish is long with oak, more of that honey, soft camphor and the softest peat.

Auchroisk 25 YO, 55,4%, Sherry Butt, 270 flasker, £115: The nose opens in a syrupy style, then runs to a citric pith with burnt sugar, raisins and ginger. The palate shows sweet barley up front and is tannic and chewy with loads of molasses and spices. The finish is malty with dark liquorice tones, a drift of smoke and late macerated fruits.

Bruichladdich 26 YO, 52,1%, Refill Hogshead, 225 flakser, £180: The nose opens fresh and fragrant with a buttery sweet character and flambeed oranges. The palate is sweet and malty; still fresh and zesty with candied orange and barley sugar. The finish is long with a candy sweetness, before running drier to spicy orange pith.

Douglas Laing XOP Port EllenStrathmill 32 YO, 51,0%, Sherry Butt, 258 flasker, £170: Sherried to the eye and sherried on the nose. Full of dry spices, macerated fruit and alcohol-soaked raisins. Detect light oak and barley hues on the palate ahead of these same dry spices; now with a minted, gristy style. The finish is dry with peppermint and raisins as shown earlier, turning sweeter and spicier at its tail.

Port Ellen 36 YO, 56,6%, Refill Hogshead, 227 flasker, £1.225: The nose is subtly peated, running to warm beach sand and citrus with now more evident phenols. The palate shows initially sweet barley and peat, with coal dust and chimney soot, all showing through its pelagic style. All of the above is evident in the finish, plus more spice, soft chewed leather and late tar.

Port Dundas 37 YO, 60,2%, Refill Hogshead, 189 flasker, £215: The nose is full of sweet spices, lightly oaked with a citric, molasses infused and sherbet style. The palate is mouth-puckeringly peppered, yet still full of later orange pith and muscovado sugar. Now the finish shows chocolate and coffee finesse plus more of that earlier sherbet.

Girvan 50 YO, 43,7%, Refill Hogshead, 153 flasker, £385: The nose opens wonderfully spiced and softly oaked with sweet toffee and sumptuous sugar. The palate swirls between subtle citrus and explosive espresso, plus late cedar and cereals. Detect demerara sugar above all on the finish, with a cough drop style camphor.

Fred Laing udtaler:

Each month, we hand select casks from our vaults when we believe they have reached their peak of perfection, and bottle them under our Provenance, Old Particular and XOP brands. It’d be fair to say that Single Casks are our bread and butter, but we never let ourselves forget just how special it is to bottle these Whiskies exactly as the distiller intended – straight from the cask, without chill-filtering or adding colouring, and at natural cask strength. We don’t often shout about these releases, but with a leathery Port Ellen aged for 36 glorious years, a wonderfully treacle-y Strathmill 32 Years Old and a duo of particularly sweetly vanilla’d old and rare Grain Whiskies among our latest collection, we felt it’d be rude not to share.
